About

Joseph Cholok is an Alaska Native Yup’ik artist from Scammon Bay, a rural village in the Yukon-Kuskokwim Delta region. He is currently pursuing his Bachelor of Arts degree at the University of Alaska Fairbanks. Cholok’s first experiences in a beginning ceramics class allowed him to find a passion for the arts, encouraging him to switch to a study of the arts. His preferred mediums are ceramics and photography with an interest in drawing. Through these mediums, Cholok hopes to showcase his culture by using the techniques of movement and drama. He aims to express his experiences navigating the transition of coming from a rural village to a larger city through the opportunities he’s had growing up.
