Artist Statement

I am an artist from Scammon Bay, a rural village along the western coast of Alaska. My work is informed by my experiences transitioning from a small village community to larger environments, shaped in part by my participation in dual enrollment and a 2025 study away program.

Through these experiences, opportunities not often available to many from rural villages, I explore the shift between “village life” and the “outside world.” My work focuses on documenting and interpreting this transition.

Through photography, I capture the movement and rhythm of everyday life, emphasizing moments of change, adaptation, and perspective. In ceramics, I create pieces that reflect elements of my cultural background while also drawing influence from pre-Roman and Italian traditions.

My practice centers on expressing the complexities of navigating between communities, offering insight into identity, culture, and lived experience.
